Hilldale is a neighborhood located in the city of Edina, Minnesota. It is situated in the western part of the city and is bounded by Interlachen Boulevard to the north, Blake Road to the east, Vernon Avenue to the south, and Tracy Avenue to the west.
It’s a primarily residential neighborhood, with tree-lined streets and well-maintained homes. The houses in Hilldale are a mix of architectural styles, including Cape Cod, Colonial, and ranch-style homes, among others. The neighborhood is known for its spacious lots and well-manicured lawns, which contribute to its suburban charm.
The neighborhood is located near several parks and recreational areas, including Pamela Park, which features a playground, athletic fields, and a community center. Bredesen Park, located just to the west of Hilldale, offers hiking and biking trails, as well as picnic areas and a playground.
It is also conveniently located near several shopping and dining options. The nearby 50th & France shopping district features a variety of boutiques, restaurants, and cafes. In addition, the Southdale Center, one of the largest shopping malls in the state, is located just a short drive from the neighborhood.
The Hilldale neighborhood has a rich history that dates back to the early 1900s. In the early days of the neighborhood, the land was primarily used for agriculture, and many of the homes in the area were built as farmhouses.
In the 1920s and 1930s, the area began to see development as it became a popular location for suburban homes. Many of the homes in the neighborhood were built during this time, and the architectural styles reflect the popular styles of the era, such as Colonial, Tudor, and Cape Cod.
During the mid-20th century, the neighborhood continued to grow and evolve, with the construction of new homes and the establishment of local businesses. The opening of the Southdale Center in 1956, located just to the south of the Hilldale neighborhood, brought new shopping and dining options to the area.
In the 1960s, the neighborhood faced a major challenge when the construction of Highway 100 threatened to divide the neighborhood in half. However, community members worked together to ensure that the highway was built underground, preserving the neighborhood’s integrity and character.
Today, the Hilldale neighborhood remains a desirable place to live in the city of Edina. Its well-maintained homes, beautiful tree-lined streets, and convenient location continue to attract new residents who appreciate the area’s rich history and suburban charm.
